Data mining
Drilling down to get to the bottom of it. We use this technique a lot. In one research project data mining discovered the patterns between incidents reported to emergency services command and control centres.
Hypercube
We have used this technique in several recent projects. Live data extracted from multiple, different databases is stored in one "cube" which can then be interactively queried making business data more accessible than it has ever been. Hypercubes are used as the basis of strategic planning in businesses today.
